What is Everybody Wins!? Everybody Wins! Iowa matches elementary school students with compassionate volunteers from local businesses, corporations and community organizations to read aloud for one hour, once a week to children. The volunteer reading mentor promotes the joy of reading and serves as a caring adult role-model. Children build academic confidence and enhance their overall positive self-esteem. The volunteers, their company or organization, the schools and the students benefit, which creates a better community for central Iowa. Everybody Wins!

Everybody Wins! Iowa is a privately funded, nonprofit organization that was started in Iowa in 2002. The Iowa organization is an independent affiliate of the national Everybody Wins! organization. With the leadership of Senator Tom Harkin and a devoted group of business leaders and educators, our goal is to reach children while they are young, stimulate their interest in reading and create lifetime readers that will have better opportunities for success in school and life. The U.S. Department of Education has evaluated the Power Lunch program and supports the positive outcomes for students. Through the Everybody Wins! Power Lunch program, the community is engaged as partners to promote literacy.

How Does Everybody Win?
Children Win as they learn the joy of reading while benefiting from improved reading skills and academic performance, as well as enhanced self-esteem.

Volunteers Win by enjoying meaningful and worthwhile experiences and the satisfaction of knowing they are making a positive impact on the future of a young child.

Schools Win as students become more interested in reading and more receptive to reading, without any additional burden or cost.

Companies and Businesses Win employee morale from the ease of participating in a large-scale community service program. EVERYBODY WINS! takes complete responsibility for managing a volunteer program for them, making it possible for their employees to experience the joy of volunteering.
