Available Position - School Coordinator
(multiple positions available)

Position Description - Part Time

Everybody Wins! Iowa is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of School Coordinator. The coordinator is responsible for enforcing the Power Lunch program guidelines and ensuring that volunteers, school faculty, and students are satisfied with their Everybody Wins! experience. They serve as the liaison between school staff, including Literacy Leaders, teachers, and principals, and Everybody Wins! Iowa staff to ensure communication and coordination.

Everybody Wins! Iowa is a youth literacy and mentoring program that strives to bridge the literacy and mentoring gap by matching students with adult mentors to spend an hour a week reading and learning together.

Candidates must be responsible, organized, and independent workers that can communicate effectively with Everybody Wins! Iowa staff, school faculty, adult volunteers, and school children. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Email. Employment hours vary, but average 1 - 2 hours per program day.

Pay is $9/hr.

Duties include:

  • Contact each volunteer via email or phone
  • Meet with the school principal and any other involved staff
  • Work with the school staff to determine which students will participate in the program
  • Get a copy of the school calendar for volunteer folders
  • Match students and readers
  • Send permission letters out to parents and submit completed copies to EW! IA
  • Get volunteer information forms filled out and submit completed copies to EW! IA
  • Coordinate student and volunteer orientations with Program Coordinator
  • Collect agreement forms from volunteers and submit completed copies to EW! IA
  • Collect the Student Questionnaire and submit to EW! IA
  • Call Executive Director by 8:30 a.m. on reading day if you are not able to work
  • Do an attendance check. Call AND e-mail volunteers by 9:45 if their student is absent or ensure that another student is available when the adult arrives.
  • Be present during Power Lunch and arrive at least 45 minutes prior
  • If volunteer will be absent, notify student or student’s teacher before Power Lunch
  • Email volunteers if there is a school schedule change (early out, weather closing)
  • Ensure that each student has a reader and each reader has a student
  • Follow up with a volunteer that is absent without communicating with you
  • Maintain attendance records and monitor student behavior
  • Check in with volunteer/student pairs to ensure good dynamic
  • Clean up the room after everyone has left
  • Submit timesheets
  • Create and keep an updated master list of volunteers and check in list of active and former volunteers
  • Inform Program Coordinator of any problems with students, volunteers, or school staff
  • Establish professional relationships with volunteers, staff and students.
  • Be available to volunteers via telephone and e-mail
  • Keep nametags, volunteer folders and book carts organized and updated
  • Promote EW! IA through special events, bulletin boards, fliers or other appropriate communication
  • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
