Press Release continued. Des Moines, Iowa – Everybody Wins! Iowa announced today that the volunteer service of a team of New York Life Insurance representatives in Des Moines, Iowa has resulted in a $1,250 grant to Everybody Wins! Iowa through the New York Life Foundation’s TeamGrant Program. These participants work in the Des Moines office of New York Life Insurance and volunteer at Capitol View Elementary through the Everybody Wins! Iowa Power Lunch program. The Everybody Wins! Iowa Power Lunch program matches elementary school students one-to-one with volunteers from companies, organizations, and the community. The volunteer “reading mentors” spend one lunch hour each week talking with their assigned students, reading aloud one-to-one, and instilling positive attitudes about reading. Volunteers also serve as role models to enhance students’ self-esteem and encourage their success through consistent positive interactions. Janice Kennedy, a member of the New York Life Insurance Power Lunch Team says of the Everybody Wins! Iowa program “It has been amazing to me to see my co-workers enjoy this program as much as I do, and even more amazing to know that we work for a company that truly supports and encourages volunteer efforts in the community. Employee volunteering at New York Life is what we do. The office is creating an environment where everybody ewins: the community, the child, the employee and of course New York Life.” The TeamGrant Program recognizes the group volunteer efforts of New York Life’s employees, retirees, and agents. Through this program, qualified teams may apply for a grant for nonprofit charitable organizations where they volunteer their time in both short- and long- term commitments. The program requires a minimum involvement of five New York Life employees who collectively contribute a minimum of 40 hours of service per calendar year. The New York Life Foundation, established in 1979 by New York Life Insurance Company, makes contributions to national and local nonprofit organizations. Through its Nurturing the Children initiative, the Foundation supports organizations, programs, and services that target young people, particularly in the areas of mentoring, safe places to learn and grow, and education enhancement opportunities.
